Company History
Tito, the founder of Uvita Surf School, started surfing at 11 years old in 1998. Then at the age of 13 his father gave him a custom surfboard shaped by the master Costa Rican shaper “Tule”. From that moment Tito had found his passion. He was not only an avid surfer but shaped and fixed his own boards. Later with a little money and a good deal of effort he bought some tools, resin and fiberglass and started fixing the boards of other local surfers. At 15 he built his first board which started him into the world of surfboard manufacture. While he studied English at the Latina University of Costa Rica he continued to build and repair boards, and in 2004 he founded the Uvita Surf School to teach his passion.
“I started from scratch! I bought a broken board, I fixed it and then I went on to distribute some brochures which I printed at the university. When the hotels heard about the new surfing school they would recommend me! The funny thing was that I only had one board and I was getting calls for multiple surf lessons! Pura vida!”
